The men competing in 2.1 km Henley Classic’s elite race will be looking to have their names inscribed on the Inman Cup, and the women on the Ovey Cup.

Both of these cups date back to the 19th century proving that open water swimming has a lengthy history. The overall male and female winners of the upstream course in the Thames will also receive £500.

Reigning champion Richard Stannard is the top seed and will be wearing No. 1 as the 2-time champion and holder of the Inman Cup. The 2001 British Triathlon champion, 2003 and 2006 Aquathlon World Champion, and 2005, 2007 and 2010 Biathlon World Champion is favored again.

Xavier Llobet Sallent Xavier is a triathlete with a swimming background who competed in the 2004 Athens Olympics and won the Great London Swim. Andrew Horsfall Turner was second at the Great London Swim behind Xavier and victorious in the Brighton Pier to Pier Swim, South East region open water races. Mark Deans is a member of the Scottish open water development squad with a 1500m best time of 16:21 in the pool.

Gary Dressel, Guy Giles, Daniel Shorthouse, winner of the Eton 10k in 2:02:17, and Oliver Wilkinson, the H2Open Magazine swimmer of the year, will also figure in the lead pack.

Katie Henderson and Katherine Horsfall-Turner are emerging pool talents with cross-over abilities in the open water. World masters open water swimming champion Jessica Wooddisse, 2011 British Gas ASA Open Water National Youth and Senior Age Group Championship winner Helen McRoberts will be the top women to watch for the Ovey Cup.

On the amateur side of the Henley Classic scheduled for June 24th, swimmers from Australia, South Africa, U.S.A., Mauritius, Spain, France and Ireland will be the early-morning crowd from the across the UK.
