Trent Grimsey has filled the vacuum created by Petar Stoychev’s absence on the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix circuit.
Grimsey won his third Grand Prix race of the 2012 season with a commanding 6-minute victory at the Traversee internationale du lac Mempremagog. “My next race is next weekend is in lac Megantic at the FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup.
I think even though I’ve had two big marathons the last two weekends, I can still be in the mix in Megantic [where there is a competitive field of professionals].”
But his goals do not end with the end of the professional marathon swimming circuits. He will soon be heading to the English Channel where other top marathon swimmers like Petar Stoychev, Yuri Kudinov, David Meca have swum to top 10 times. Assuming the conditions are conducive to fast times, Grimsey to cautiously optimistic. “It is not long now until I take on the English Channel. After my last couple of races, I know I can give the record a real crack.”
