It was a spectacular event. Camaraderie among colleagues caused the festivities in Fermoy, Ireland to stretch from long evening into next morning. Organizer Owen O’Keefe reported on the All-Ireland Long Distance Swimming Party here.

2011 Margaret Smith Award recipient Nuala Moore announced the winners of the Irish Long Distance Swimming Association awards for the 2012 season:

Special Achievement: Stephen Redmond (Cork) for his historic success in becoming the first person to complete the Oceans Seven challenge.

Leinster Swimmer of the Year: Paul Manning (Dublin)

An Inspirational Cause… A Successful Event

SWIM ACROSS AMERICA, LONG BEACH
With the powerful cause of making waves to fight cancer, the inaugural Swim Across America Long Beach event was both inspirational and successful.

THE DRAMA OF THE SPORT
Before he came out of the water, Craig knew that a certain question had to be answered. It wasn’t a question about his middle name or anything like that. It was much more profound. It was a question posed by himself, a question that only he could answer for himself. When Craig was able to answer that question, Hank embraced him and congratulated him on finishing the 5K with dignity.
