
2013 Irish Long Distance Swimming Award Nominations
When we think of open water swimming in Ireland, we think of athletes with grit and smiles. We think of green uniforms and friendly hospitality. We think of challenging sea swims and monumental channel attempts. Many of those athletes will be honored at the Irish Long Distance Swimming Association Awards for 2013.
Online nominations for these awards are being taken until midnight January 5th 2014.
Nominations can be made here for the following categories:
* ILDSA 2013 Senior Swimmer of the Year Male – for a male swimmer who has best represented open water swimming in 2013
* ILDSA 2013 Senior Swimmer of the Year Female – for a female swimmer who has best represented open water swimming in 2013
* ILDSA 2013 Leinster Open Water Swimmer of the Year – for a swimmer from Leinster who has best represented open water swimming in 2013
* ILDSA 2013 Ted Keenan Ulster Open Water Swimmer of the Year – for a swimmer from Ulster who has best represented open water swimming in 2013
* ILDSA 2013 Páraic Casey Munster Open Water Swimmer of the Year – for a swimmer from Munster who has best represented open water swimming in 2013
* ILDSA 2013 Connaught Open Water Swimmer of the Year – for a swimmer from Connaught who has best represented open water swimming in 2013
* ILDSA 2013 Juvenile Swimmer of the Year – for an 18-year-old or under swimmer who has best represented open water swimming in 2013 (aged 18 before the 31 December 2013)
* ILDSA 2013 Margaret Smith Award – for a person or group of people who increased the profile of open water swimming in 2013
* ILDSA 2013 Senior Best Newcomer to Open Water Swimming – for a swimmer who was new to open water swimming in 2013
* ILDSA 2013 Juvenile Best Newcomer to Open Water Swimming – for a swimmer who was new to open water swimming in 2013
* 2013 Best Organised Open Water Swim – for an event which has been held in 2013 and best represented open water swimming events
* 2013 Open Water Swim Performance of the Year – for a swimmer whose performance stands out in the Irish open water community in 2013
* 2013 Spirit of Open Water Swimming – for a person who, through there selfless contribution stands out in the Irish open water community in 2013

Inductee in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame (Honor Swimmer, Class of 2001) and Ice Swimming Hall of Fame (Honor Contributor – Media, Class of 2019), recipient of the International Swimming Hall of Fame’s Poseidon Award (2016), International Swimming Hall of Fame’s Irving Davids-Captain Roger Wheeler Memorial Award (2010), USA Swimming’s Glen S. Hummer Award (2007, 2010) and Harvard University’s John B. Imrie Award (1984). Served on the FINA Technical Open Water Swimming Committee and as Technical Delegate with the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games, and 9-time USA Swimming coaching staff.
