2016 International Ocean Film Festival Winners

More than 50 filmmakers from 9 countries were represented at San Francisco’s 13th International Ocean Film Festival earlier this year.

The following films best embody the Festival’s mission to inspire others to appreciate and care for the ocean in various categories, including The Weekend Sailor (Mexico) by Bernardo Arsuaga, winner of the Director’s Award [shown above]:

Coastal Culture Award: SILA and the Gatekeepers of the Arctic (USA) by Corina Gamma

Conservation Award: On the Brink: Uncharted Waters (USA) by Vincent Soberano

Environment Award: Sonic Sea (USA) by Michelle Dougherty & Daniel Hinerfeld

Ocean Science Award: Antarctic Edge: 70 Degrees South (USA) by Dena Seidel

Wildlife Award: Speechless – The Polar Realm (New Zealand) by Richard Sidey

Adventure Award: The Hand of Franklin (Canada) by Frank Wolf

Innovation Award: We Live Underwater (Germany) by Hendrik S. Schmitt & Claudia Schmitt

Short Award: The Great Wide Open (Ireland) by Ciarán Dooley
