Daichi Suzuki, chairman of the Japan Sports Agency, did a site tour of the FINA World Swimming Championship venues to be used at the 2021 Championships in Fukuoka, Japan this week.

In a significant change to the traditional sea swimming site used at the 2001 FINA World Championships in Fukuoka, the Japanese organizers plan to host the 5 km, 10 km and 25 km open water events in a professional motorboat race venue.

The events will be held in the Fukuoka Kyotei stadium where Japanese fans gather to watch and gamble on professional boat racing. The available technology, broadcast capabilities, and the viewing of the races are unusual and spectacular for the sport of open water swimming.
