81st Annual La Jolla Rough Water Swim 2011
A great day of open water swimming took place at the 81st annual La Jolla Rough Water Swim – billed as a summertime tradition since 1916. The conditions were very good – clear skies, 65°F water, 70+°F on shore.
The festive atmosphere included several swims for age groupers, a 1-mile for masters men, women and amateurs. The day culminated with the famed 3-mile Gatorman race from La Jolla Cove to Scripps Pier and back. This year swimmers had clear water, but there as some large clumps of seaweed to contend with. Here’s some footage from this year’s event.
