A Man-made Solution for Jellyfish Stings: Sean Conway’s Beard
Sean Conway appeared on the Russell Howard’s Good News program in 2015. The 32-year-old Conway swam from Land’s End in western Cornwall, England to John O’Groats in the far north of Scotland.
His wetsuited stage swim that took him 136 days to complete. Starting on June 30th 2013, he swam a total of 90 days with the remaining days stuck on land due to weather that prevented his safe swimming in the British sea.
He explained in the show that he grew his beard to stop the jellyfish stings.
Southern California native, born 1962, is the creator of the WOWSA Awards, Oceans Seven, Openwaterpedia, Daily News of Open Water Swimming and founder of WOWSA. Inductee in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame (Honor Swimmer, Class of 2001) and Ice Swimming Hall of Fame (Honor Contributor - Media, Class of 2019), recipient of the International Swimming Hall of Fame's Poseidon Award (2016), International Swimming Hall of Fame's Irving Davids-Captain Roger Wheeler Memorial Award (2010).
