Two decades ago, there were only a few dozen open water swimming competitions over 10 kilometers. Now there are hundreds and, at the current rate, there will undoubtedly more than a thousand such events by 2020.

A new marathon swim organized by Joe Bernini, is being held in Costa Rica: the Cruce Aguas Abiertas Golfo Dulce, a three-race event in Golfo Dulce in Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica on September 12th.

Golfo Dulce is located on the Pacific Ocean side of Costa Rica among a protected rainforest and an important marine area.

The distances are 1.5 km and 5 km races as well as a 14 km marathon swim where the chances of being Walkerized are high. For more information, contact Cruce Aguas Abiertas Golfo Dulce.
