A Psychiatrist Pursuit, From Plymouth To Provinceton

Dr. Marilyn Korzekwa will attempt to swim from Plymouth to Provincetown, a 20-mile swim across Cape Cod Bay in Massachusetts tomorrow.

Her start time for the P2P Swim will be 4:30 am. Her tracker link and updates are available here.

The doctor from Hamilton, Canada is swimming on behalf of the Sashbear Foundation in order to combat suicide and stigma.

I think being able to swim for Sashbear is the most notable thing I’ve done in terms of combining swimming and psychiatry. It is a constant struggle juggling the schedule and my social life suffers, but it’s been worth it. More lay people know what [borderline personality disorder] is than ever before. I have dedicated my psychiatric career to the treatment and research of borderline personality disorder, which has a suicide rate of 10%. More treatment programs and support for families are desperately needed in Canada.”

In addition to the English Channel (16 hours 28 minutes in 2011), Swim Around Key West (in 2012), Catalina Channel (14 hours 24 minutes in 2013), Manhattan Island Marathon Swim (10 hours 2 minutes in 2014), Northumberland Strait in Canada (16 hours 41 minutes in 2015), she has traversed many lakes in Canada. She has twice crossed Lake Ontario (in 1983 and 1984 in both directions), Lake Simcoe (35 km in 18 hours 44 minutes), Lake Joseph (22 km in 9 hours 30 minutes in 2014), Lake Rosseau (in 2009), and Lake Muskoka (in 2013). She became the oldest woman to complete the Cook Strait crossing as she eclipsed Pamela Dickson‘s previous record.
