Abhejali Bernardova Czechs Off The Triple Crown

She completed the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming with a 9 hour 46 minute Catalina Channel crossing on August 18th. She is the first Czech Republic swimmer to become a Triple Crowner.
As a runner, she has completed a 6-day run, 24-hour runs, and 100 km runs. In lakes, she has twice completed the International Self-Transcendence Marathon-Schwimmen in Lake Zurich in 2010 and 2011. In rivers, she completed the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in 8 hours 28 minutes in 2012. In the ocean, she swam the English Channel in 14 hours 37 minutes in 2011 as well as two English Channel relays, the Strait of Gibraltar in 4 hours 35 minutes in 2013, and the Catalina Channel this week.
The Catalina Channel Swimming Federation observer Monica Bender reported about her swim. “Abhejali and her team were wonderful to team up with across the channel. We had smooth waters for most of the journey except a little chop in the middle. The water was mostly 70/71°F (21°C) the entire way. Huge pods of dolphins were spotted near the finish, and they swam around her for a small portion of the swim. The phosphorescence was beautiful.”
