Admiral Konstantin Sidenko, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Bering Strait Swim “Chukotka – Alaska 2013” and the commander of the Eastern Military District from 2010 to 2013, addressed the participants of the 2014 Global Open Water Swimming Conference in Scotland.

Dear Friends,

One year has passed since the moment when the friendly international team of swimmers from 17 countries could combine their efforts and for the first time in the history of swimming in open water to overcome and defeat the previously unclimbed Bering Strait.

Organization and carrying out of the race showed the whole world that the power of the human spirit is subject to any element, in very difficult conditions of the Bering Strait in rough seas and gusty, squally wind athletes were able to show their best qualities and conquer the elements.

Consider it a great achievement – the recognition of a swim across the Bering Strait “Chukotka – Alaska 2013” in the nomination World Open Water Swimming Association as an event at the world swimming in open water. This has the merit of the collective efforts of the organizing committee of the swim, the international operational headquarters and of course an international team of swimmers.

I am very sorry that I could not take part in the international conference and make a presentation at the conference. I consider it my duty to inform you that I have decided to delegate the right to represent the organizing committee of the international conference on race Tatyana Alexandrova (Russia) and Alexander Yakovlev (Latvia), and from an international team Nuala Moore (Ireland).

I hope in future prize established WOWSA, for organizing and hosting a swim across the Bering Strait will take its rightful place in the museum of the history of the Eastern Military District.

Ahead of us are waiting for new achievements and records, like myself, I wish all participants good health and great human happiness
.
