Alexander Sciammarela Sant’Ana Completes A Fast Travessia do Leme ao Pontal

Adherbal de Oliveira,, president of the Leme to Pontal Swimming Association, reported that Alexander Sciammarela Sant’Ana completed the 36 km Travessia do Leme ao Pontal in 8 hours 54 minutes.

Sant’Ana wrote his name in the history of the Travessia as the first military firefighter and the first swimmer in the interior of the state of Rio de Janeiro and the city of Campo dos Goytacazes to compete the swim.

His swim from Leme to Pontal started at 2:19 am with the expectation of good winds, good swells, and a favorable current. As soon as he started his swim, the good conditions were continued and Alexandre flew along the course with a water temperature of 25ºC. Swimming an average speed above 4 kilometers per hour, he reached the halfway point in the course at 3 hours 40 minutes. The water was crystal clear and Alexander had the opportunity to swim with plankton for the first time, making his swim even more special.

Definitely, Alexandre had a perfect day. A dream day.

Even focused on doing his best performance, Alexander was attentive to the natural beauties of the course while swimming. He reported that was thrilled while swimming when he saw Christ the Redeemer during the sunrise.

But not everything was tranquil.

During the course, he felt sick caused by the smoke from the escort boat discharge. But his coach Alexandre de Oliveira Ramos and his technical assistant Beatriz Maria Pinheiro Barão de Oliveira Ramos gave medication to Alexander and asked him to swim on the other side of the boat. They made adjustments to his diet and shortened the interval between hydrations from every 30 minutes to every 20 minutes. They were able to talk more with him, also focusing on his mental makeup.

Overcoming this adversity, he continued swimming strongly towards Pontal, always accompanied by the escort boat Kamarada of Commander Ronaldo Correa Ferreira and observer Ricardo Patrick Lima Silva. He completed the Travessia from Leme to Pontal with a fast time of 8 hours 54 minutes.

From Leme to Pontal there is nothing like it!
