All Booked Up In Jersey Til 2012

Charlie Gravett of the Jersey Long Distance Swimming Club, situated in the English Channel approximately 14 miles (22K) from Normandy, France and approximately 100 miles (162K) south of Great Britain, reported that the slots for doing a 70K solo circumnavigation around Jersey are all reserved until at least 2012.

The 70K course takes swimmers along a ruggedly beautiful terrain ranging from long sandy bays to cliffs, usually done in July or August.

Jersey is the largest and southernmost of the Channel Islands. It was first successfully circumnavigated by a solo swimmer in 1969 by local swimmer Denize le Pennec in 13 hours and 55 minutes. The fastest circumnavigation swim is held by Nick Adams of Great Britain in 9 hours and 51 minutes, set recently in 2010 when he broke the long-held record by the renowned Alison Streeter, Queen of the Channel, by a scant two minutes.

The water temperature can be expected to be around 64ºF (17.7ºC) and the swim is tidal assisted if planned and timed right under the expert guidance of the local escort pilots.
