Allan Lopes Mamédio do Carmo of Brazil, the winner of the FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup, joined his teammate Ana Marcela Cunha as the FINA World Open Water Swimmers of the Year.

Allan Lopes Mamédio do Carmo was also nominated for the 2014 World Open Water Swimming Man of the Year as was Ana Marcela.

His WOWSA Awards nomination reads, “Taking after his Brazilian female teammates Ana Marcela Cunha and Poliana Okimoto, Allan Lopes Mamédio do Carmo is an Olympian. But for the first time in his long career, he became the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup champion this year. After last year’s FINA World Championship medal performance in the 5 km team pursuit, Do Carmo is finding himself highly motivated by the prospects of representing Brazil at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. His motivation is equaled by his racing performance throughout the 2014 season where he outsprinted Olympic medalists like Thomas Lurz and Richard Weinberger while outpointing every other elite male swimmer in the world. For winning the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup series title for the first time, for joining Ana Marcela Cunha in a dominating Brazilian sweep of the FINA World Cup titles, for winning 2 races on the pro circuit as well as the South American Games 10 km race and the 3 km team pursuit, Allan do Carmo is a worthy nominee for the 2014 World Open Water Swimming Man of the Year.
