Anthony McCarley Talks About Giving Back On WOWSA Live

Anthony McCarley had a childhood dream to swim across the English Channel that he ultimately achieved on his second attempt.

Over the last decade, McCarley has completed the 7.1 km Great Chesapeake Bay Swim, 18.4 km Swim Around Key West, 37 km Tampa Bay Marathon Swim, 12.6 km Boston Light Swim, 33.5 km English Channel (in 13 hours 29 minutes), 24.3 km Cape May Circumnavigation Challenge, 11.3 km Pillsbury Sound, 45.9 km Manhattan Island Marathon Swim, 32.3 km Catalina Channel, 30 km Three Rivers Marathon Swim, 19.6 km Santa Barbara Channel, 14.4 km Strait of Gibraltar, 23 km Cook Strait, 34.2 km Lake Tahoe, 35 km Travessia do Leme ao Pontal (in 15 hours 33 minutes in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) to achieve the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming, the California Triple Crown of Marathon Swimming, and the Grand Slam of Open Water Swimming – with a goal to complete the Triple Crown of South America.

His journey to success have been challenging to say the least, but McCarley has found an ideal and unique way to give back to the sport. He tells his story to International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame chairman Ned Denison in today’s edition of WOWSA Live. They talked about:

* his journey from an abalone-diving 2-mile swimmer to an English Channel swimmer
* never giving up on his English Channel dream
* completing the Grand Slam
* the danger of hyperthermia
* the emotional impact of his first DNF in the English Channel
* completing the California Triple Crown of Marathon Swimming
* high-altitude swimming in Lake Tahoe
* heading off to complete the Triple Crown South American
* giving back to the sport of marathon swimming and realizing his dreams
