Bambi Bowman Huisveld Tackles Catalina Channel to Achieve Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming

Paula Selby of the Catalina Channel Swimming Federation reported the achievement of the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming by Bambitt (Bambi) Bowman Huisveld with her 9 hour 41 minute crossing of the Catalina Channel on June 14th.

Bambi completed the 20 Bridges around Manhattan Island in 2020 and an English Channel crossing in 2021 so she made 3-for-3 with her Catalina Channel over the past 3 years.

She was supported by a lot of record setters including her husband Peter Huisveld [shown above] who set the overall men’s record of 7 hours 37 minutes in 1992 and Grace van der Byl, who holds the overall record from Catalina Island to the mainland, along with stalwart David Clark and two-way record-holder John York as her observers.
