Bella Sims Is A Golden Anchor
16-year-old Bella Sims of the Sandpipers of Nevada was the youngest swimmer on Team USA’s 800m freestyle relay at the 2022 FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, but her coaches and teammates placed a lot of confidence and pressure on the dual pool + open water swimmer from Las Vegas to perform on the anchor leg.
Sims clearly lived up to their expectations at the American women won gold with a championship record of 7:41.45. With a closing 200m split of 1:54.60, Sims is going to be tough to beat in the last stages of any open water swimming competition going forward.
- Claire Weinstein 1:56.71 split
- Leah Smith 1:56.47 split
- Katie Ledecky 1:53.67 split
- Bella Sims 1:54.60 split
Sims is scheduled to compete in Team USA’s mixed 6 km open water swimming relay to be held on Sunday, June 26th in Lake Lupa at the World Championships.
