Big Cash Prizes At The BCT Gdynia Marathon In Poland

The new professional BCT Gdynia Marathon in Gdynia, Poland is organized by Tomasz Pąchalski. The BCT Gdynia Marathon is an additional event in the amateur Morski Maraton Pływacki BCT Gdynia competition held in Gdynia, Poland.

The new professional 18.5 km (11.2-mile) event will take place on the sunniest and warmest day between August 24th – 26th in the Gulf of Gdańsk between the Hel Peninsula and Tricity in the city of Gdynia.

The BCT Gdynia Marathon is the first of its kind – a major open water swimming event – in Poland since the 1970s. We would like to invite open water swimmers from all over Europe and other continents as well,” explained Pąchalski. “Our priority is safety of our competitor, so we decided to limit the field to 15 top athletes. Only the best swimmers from around the world will be invited. In addition, five wild cards will be invited to less famous but talented competitors from Poland. The expected temperature of the water is rather low (16-18°C), so it very important to have experienced open water swimmers.”

Gdynia is a large coastal city in Gdańsk Bay on the south coast of the Baltic Sea. Hel Peninsula is a long 35-kilometer sand bar separating the Bay of Puck from the Baltic Sea.

The total pool of prizes amounts to US$28,000, including two first-place cash awards of US$10,000 for the overall female and male winners. The event is limited tor a maximum of 15 participants.
