Birth Of A New Island In Nishinoshima

500 meters from Nishinoshima is a new island being formed. Slowly but surely, the cauldron is boiling over and making land where none existed before.

Nishinoshima is a volcanic island that is part of the Volcano Islands in Japan.

The islands are part of Ogasawara, south of Tokyo by 1000 km (620 miles) and are an archipelago of beautiful subtropical and tropical islands, many uninhabited, in the Pacific Ocean.

Surrounded by warm water and abundant marine life, the islands are all active volcanoes lying atop an island arc that stretches south to the Marianas.
