Bob Swims From California To France
Bob Swims, an attorney and enthusiastic volunteer who is training in Oregon, is the brainchild and passion of Bob Needham. Bob will use a step-by-step, year-by-year approach to swim the Catalina Channel in 2011, the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in 2012, and the English Channel in 2013.
Bob Swims emerges from his passion to raise awareness about suicide. “It affects people in so many ways. I want to help those who are at risk of committing suicide by supporting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.”
“I will also attempt a double crossing of the Golden Gate Bridge. The double crossing is symbolic for a couple of reasons. First, more suicides have been committed at the Golden Gate Bridge than anywhere else in the world. Second, crossing over and back is reflective of a person’s journey across the abyss of suicidal thoughts, and the return back to safety.”

Southern California native, born 1962, is the creator of the WOWSA Awards, Oceans Seven, Openwaterpedia, Citrus Corps, World Open Water Swimming Association, Daily News of Open Water Swimming, Global Open Water Swimming Conference. He is Chief Executive Officer of KAATSU Global and KAATSU Research Institute.
