Carol Hayden Breaks Record In California Channel Islands

Scott Zornig of the Santa Barbara Channel Swimming Association reported that Carol Hayden became the oldest female to complete a channel swim off a California Channel Island when she swam from Anacapa Islandto Ventura on the California mainland in 9 hours 51 minutes.

The 64-year-old dynamo broke the current record set by 60-year-old Pat Gallant-Charette who swam from Catalina Island to Pt Vincente on the California mainland in 2011. The oldest male to have completed a marathon swim is Emilio Casanueva who was 68 years old when he swam across the Catalina Channel in 2008.

Carol Hayden is shown above with her husband Peter Hayden who also completed a circumnavigation around Anacapa Island as well as a channel swim between Anacapa Island and the California mainland this week [see here].
