Celebrating The Legacy Of Jim Doty

There is a free 1-mile open water swim in Boston Harbor, Massachusetts on June 16th to honor International Marathon Swimming Hall of Famer Jim Doty.

The bedrock of the New England open water swimming community, he dedicated his life to promoting swimming and a clean environment in New England waters. His legacy will be celebrated at the Jim Doty Memorial Mile Swim.

The founder of the New England Marathon Swimming Association, former track star and Harvard University graduate re-started the Boston Light Swim back in the mid-1970s and re-ignited the entire open water swimming community throughout New England.

The Jim Doty Memorial Mile Swim is on Saturday, June 16th at the L Street Bathhouse (Curley Community Center) in South Boston. Attendance is requested to be confirm on the Boston Light Swim Facebook group. In lieu of a registration fee, swimmers may make a donation in Doty’s name to Mission Haiti c/o Sawgrass Community Church in Florida.

The event hosts are the Massachusetts Open Water Swimming Association (MOWSA), New England Marathon Swimming Association (NEMSA), and the Boston Light Swim.
