Cherelle Oestringer Brings Local Title Back To Hawaii
Courtesy of WOWSA, Huntington Beach, California.
Not since the heyday of NCAA champion Kathy Shipman in the 1970s and Kaili Chun and Nadine Day (née Takai) in the 1980s has a local woman won the Waikiki Roughwater Swim, the most prestigious, competitive and largest ocean swim throughout the Hawaiian Islands.
But Cherelle Oestringer, originally from Switzerland, is a senior disance freestyler at the University of Hawaii and was the only woman to finish in the top 10 at this year really tough Waikiki Roughwater Swim on Oahu.
