Many coaches wake up very early in the morning and continue to coach, educate and inspire swimmers of all ages until late at night.

Sibani Makhanya of the Seals Swimming Club in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa is one of those special coaches. The young man from KwaMashu in South Africa is as passionate and dedicated to pool and open water swimming as they come.

I get up early to coach morning workout, then I ride my bike to school and then I am back at the pool coaching until 9:30 at night. I really love coaching and swimming, and I am learning so much from everyone who is helping me.

I wanna make every child a swimmer and I want swimming to be part of the population around the world. I can help the African people all over.”

Besides Coach Sibani’s swimming and coaching, he will participate in this year’s 92 km Comrades Marathon that is one leg of the Pope-Ellis Ironman competition which also includes the aQuellé Midmar Mile in Pietermaritzburg and the 120 km Dusi Canoe Marathon in South Africa.
