Coach Christine joined the OCCS family this season and currently coaches PWE IMX & Pre-Seniors. Previously she coached the last 4 years with PWSC (Advanced Pre-Seniors, Advanced Juniors, Summer & High School Prep). Coach Christine was the Assistant Head Coach 2017-2020. Additionally, she was the head coach of both Veterans Park Summer Swim Team (2018) and Stonewall Jackson HS Cross Country/Distance Track Teams (2009-2014). In 2020 she was appointed an assistant coach at the Olympic Training Center’s National Diversity Select Camp.

Her swimming career began supposedly before she could walk. That’s her mom’s story and she’s sticking to it. Mom taught lessons in the backyard pool in Florida and Christine snuck out every chance she got to “assist” her. While she was playing to the point of annoyance at USF during her brother’s swim practices, the coach said how about we throw her into the pool too. Christine swam year-round from 9-20. In high school, she was state finalist all 4 years 100 fly/500 free/ 200 free and both relays (400 free/medley) while qualifying for several National Select Camps in high school. Additionally, she was an All-American in butterfly and freestyle. Later, competing for University of Alabama, Christine qualified for Olympic Trials and finished 3rd at the 2000 US Open in the 400 Medley Relay. Due to injuries, she had to stop swimming at the conclusion her sophomore year. Training with teammates/Olympians Brooke Bennett, Maritza Corriea and Janelle Atkinson, as well as being coached by USA Olympic coaches Greg Troy and Peter Banks helps her draw upon experience in her coaching.

Those injuries and lack of technical advice have shaped my philosophy as a coach. I am a stickler for punctuality, a huge fan of quality technical tips over massive amounts of yardage, and including sets that swimmers never thought they could complete. Her favorite aspect of coaching is to convince athletes to do things they did not think were possible. Lastly, she’s a huge proponent of dryland and improving flexibility to incorporate better technique and prevent injuries.
