Dotti York was a tireless and passionate open water swimming enthusiast behind the scenes, is best known for being the mother of the great channel swimmer, John York, and the support she provided during his swimming career. For decades, York worked as the volunteer chief administrative officer for the Catalina Channel Swimming Federation . Her duties included preparing all the correspondence, alerting the media on attempts, securing and appointing observers for the swims and acting as official Federation delegate on many of the swims. No job was too big or too small and, for example, it ran the gambit from the planning for the Federations annual awards banquet to preparing a box lunch for a crew member on a crossing.
