Avram Iancu (Romania) – World Open Water Swimming Association

Avram Iancu swam 26.35 km upstream in the Danube River in Romania, starting from the Iron Gate Dam and finishing in 18 hours 30 minutes.

About

Avram was featured in the film SW!M for his 89-day stage swim of 2,860 km in the Danube River from the Black Forest in Germany to the Black Sea in Romania. He also swam 103.8 km in the Danube River in 2020 in 36 hours 29 minutes before deciding to attempt an unprecedented upstream swim in the Danube this year.

Why he was nominated

For being a creative adventurer who is relentless in the pursuit of his open water swimming goals (he completed an English Channel crossing on his 4th attempt) and for being a personable ambassador and promoter of the sport with a genuinely profound joy and sense of appreciation for his supporters and the unpredictable weather that he often must swim through. For also swimming in Bucharest for 24 hours and in Timisoara for 12 hours to help support autistic children who wish to swim.
