Courtney Moates Paulk (USA) – World Open Water Swimming Association

Courtney Moates Paulk became the first person to complete a Double Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming – or a double circumnavigation swim around Manhattan Island (40 Bridges), a double crossing of the Catalina Channel, and a double crossing of the English Channel.

About

Courtney Moates Paulk is one of the most prolific marathon swimmers in the world. Her Double Triple Crown came after 3 years of single crossings under extreme weather conditions.

Why she was nominated

For her tenacity in reaching her goals even if her timeline is measured in years, and for becoming the first individual to achieve a “Double Triple Crown”, and for being pulled after an hour from the start due to weather conditions. She had until 4 am the next morning to get ready again, but she accomplished her goal after 27 hours 36 minutes of swimming in the English Channel. She also completed the first known width crossing of the Chesapeake Bay and finished her season with a 20.5-mile DC Marathon Swim.
