Elaine Burrows Dillane (Ireland) – World Open Water Swimming Association

Elaine Burrows Dillane became the first woman to complete the Irish Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming: solo successes of the 21 km Fastnet Swim, the 13 km Galway Bay Swim, and the 35 km North Channel crossing between Northern Ireland and Scotland.

About

She completed the Irish Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming with her 7 hour 45 minute 21 km Fastnet Swim, a 2 hour 56 minute 13 km Galway Bay Swim, and a 14 hour 54 minute 35 km North Channel crossing. This adds to her career achievements in the English Channel and other swims in which she has pioneered as the first woman (Sandy Bay and Fenit).

Why she was nominated

For calmly and enthusiastically achieving a North Channel crossing that completed the first female Irish Triple Crown, and for continuing to push boundaries as she approaches the age of 50.
