Jordan Leckey (Ireland) – World Open Water Swimming Association

Jordan Leckey crossed the 35 km North Channel in a record-setting 9 hours 9 minutes, breaking the existing 9 hour 34 minute record of Michelle Macy set in 2014.

A former competitive swimmer, he has steadily taken on increasingly difficult open water swims until faced with the very cold waters with venomous jellyfish and unpredictable tidal flows of the North Channel between Northern Ireland and Scotland. In a crossing where nearly everything went to plan, the humble Irishman established a new global standard for the notorious North Channel.

Why he was nominated

For attempting and succeeding at the hardest channel of all and then following up by helping the next generation in Lough Neagh only two days later, his dedication to the sport and his humble nature enables him to be a personable ambassador of the sport.
