Arianna Birdi set a world record in the 36 km Maratona del Golfo Capri-Napoli in Italy, finishing in 6 hours and 4 minutes, faster than any man or woman since 1954.



Arianna Bridi revived her ongoing rivalry with Ana Marcela Cunha at the 36 km Maratona del Golfo Capri-Napoli, but she also beat the professional men in a 1-2 all-female finish and set an overall course record of 6 hours 4 minutes.

Why it was nominated

For swimming faster than every other professional marathon swimmer since 1954, for touching out Ana Marcela Cunha by a 1 second to set a historic record on one of the world’s most famous marathon swimming courses.
