Maria Cotignolo is a coach and mentor of open water swimming in Uruguay at Udelar, the the University of the Republic, Uruguay’s oldest public university.

About

She coaches swimmers and introduces non-swimmers of all ages to the ocean and open water swimming in Uruguay. Her program is being carried out year-round throughout the COVID-19 pandemic that is having a significant positive impact on the psychological outlook of the participants.

Why she was nominated

For inspiring others in the midst of a pandemic and getting them out in the ocean to challenge themselves while seeking their physical potential as swimmers. For being innovative and infectious in her passion and interest in helping others.
