The unheralded 22-year-old was seeded 14th going into the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim where the world’s fastest marathon swimmers race.
He outswam many pre-race favorites and nearly captured a podium position, finishing the 10 km race in warm-water, warm-weather conditions in 1 hour 49 minutes.

For believing in himself, training to race for a podium position, remaining in the top pack, rising to the occasion, and coming close to a podium position at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
