Open Water Swim Traverse (Lebanon) – World Open Water Swimming Association

The Open Water Swim Traverse is a short-form 10-minute film about a 6-person relay that swam 180 km for 51 hours 50 minutes from Cyprus to Lebanon in the Mediterranean Sea.

About

The purpose of the film is to raise awareness on issue of single-use plastic and its impact on the Mediterranean Sea and the world, directed by Edwin El Bainou. The 180 km swim was completed in 2019.

Why it was nominated

The Open Water Swim Traverse was the winner of Best Short Film at the 2021 WILDsound FEEDBACK Film Festival. Soumaya Merhi, Jad El Ghosn, Diane Boulos, Mary Anne Reese Ballouz, May El Timani, and Martin Mougharbil completed the first open water non-stop relay swim from Cyprus to Lebanon as part of TAQA’s environmental activism campaign. TAQA Snacks is a Lebanese bakery offering a selection of healthy and plant-based oat cookies and energy bars.
