Crossing Florida In The Open Water

Gregg Cross is a passionate coach and veteran open water race director from Florida who has created and organized swims from Fort Myers to Miromar Lakes in Florida. Through his leadership and promotional endeavors, open water swimming has grown in popularity in Florida and throughout the country and his signature event – the Open Water Festival – has long been a showcase for other open water swimming events in America.

In addition to coaching for Swim Florida, Cross was the 2006 and 2014 recipient of the Glen S. Hummer Award, a recognition given to the individual who makes the greatest contribution to the open water swimming in the United States, and has organized several USA Swimming National Open Water Swimming Championships at the Open Water Festival.

The 2017 Open Water Festival will offer the following events:

April 29th
*Open Water Relays including 10&under 4×200 relay + 14&under 1.5 km Team Pursuit + Open 2.5 km Team Pursuits with teams of 3-5 swimmers
*Youth Buddy Swim for 10&under swimmers
*Crippen Sunset Mile for cash prizes

April 30th
*Florida Open Water Championships for masters and age-group swimmers (5 km)
*LSC Challenge Open Water Swim (5 km for the Local Swim Committee All-Star Teams)
*Open Water Festival Race 5 km
