Darren Miller, Ultra Motivated To Achieve

Darren Miller, founder of Team Forever and a community activist from Murrysville, Pennsylvania, has long-range plans on the Ocean’s Seven.

With a warm-up 24-mile swim in Tampa Bay, Darren took care of business on his first leg of the Oceans Seven with a 12:04 English Channel crossing.

Now he is off training to achieve his multi-year plan to knock off the North Channel, Molokai Channel, Tsugaru Channel, Strait of Gibraltar, Catalina Channel and Cook Strait swims. Besides swimming mega-miles in training in Lake Erie and Keystone Lake late into the fall and early in the spring, Darren does ultra-marathons and ultra-cycling races, as well as taking only cold showers and maintaining a home temperature of 58°F (14°C).

Donations for his Ocean’s Seven challenge benefit the Forever Fund. The Forever Fund is a charitable foundation that Darren and Cathy Cartieri Mehl established in memory of Anthony Frank Cartieri that aids families in their struggle to afford the costs associated with infant cardiothoracic surgery that takes place in the cardiothoracic unit of UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

The Ocean’s Seven will take years to complete, but Darren is ultra motivated to help those young children in need of expensive surgery. Stroke-by-stroke, channel-by-channel, he’ll get there.
