Does The Pope Swim?

He certainly has a grand opportunity to do so, just outside of Castel Gandolfo, the Pope’s villa.

Lake Albano is a small volcanic crater lake in the Alban Hills of Lazio, at the foot of Monte Cavo, 20 kilometers (12 miles) southeast of Rome.

The lake is about 3.5K long by 2.3K wide, formed by two volcanic craters. It hosted the rowing events of the 1960 Rome Olympics. Lake Albano is also the venue for open water swims including the 2011 Italian National Open Water Swimming 5K Time Trials.
