41 women from 18 countries competed in 8 races on the 2012 FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix circuit.

Known for its highly competitive ultra-marathon races, the distances range from 15km to 57km, from warm water to cold water, from lakes to sea, from the Southern Hemisphere to the Northern Hemisphere.

Esther Nuñez Morera of Spain came out on top in 2012, competing in 7 out of the 8 races as she toppled 2-time defending champion Pilar Geijo of Argentina.
