Shannon Development and the University of Limerick Activity Centre announced the new i3 Swim, a two-day open water swimming spectacular on September 17th – 18th at Lough Derg, one of Ireland’s most stunning locations at Lough Derg.
The event includes the Snamh Beag 1/2 mile (0.8K), the Shannon mile (1.6K), the 5K The Long Way to Tipperary, the Little Fish swim and a Corporate Challenge – something for everyone. It will be as up to 2,000 swimmers will take part in the weekend event and up to 5,000 spectators are expected over the weekend. Andrea Grainger explains, “Each start wave will consist of 200 swimmers with a new wave entering the water every 30 minutes. Swimmers start on land and walk over timing mats, this is when your time starts so if you want to avoid the rush at the front, you will still get an accurate time. Swimmers also finish on dry land by crossing timing mats at the finish surrounded by cheering spectators.”
The 5K The Long Way to Tipperary swim will begin at the UL Activity Centre, Twomilegate and finish at the Ballina Water Park recreational area.
