Faros Maratón To Be Commemorated In Monograph

Vicko Šoljan of the Croatian Long Distance Swimming Federation will publish a grand gala monograph of the Croatian International Long Distance Swimming Championship – Faros Maratón in early 2012.

Dr. Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee, wrote an introduction to the monograph, “I have a great pleasure to greeting this worthy publication about one of the most important open water swimming events in the world.

Croatian International Long Distance Swimming Championship, the traditional Faros Maratón, in Stari Grad on the island of Hvar, which is one of ten the most beautiful islands in the world, is a special and historical manifestation of sport, dealing for the last 36 years as an opportunity for competitors from all the world to gather and compete.

Over the years the Faros Maratón developed from a small provincial marathon into a world–class event and now enjoys the reputation of the best international swimming marathon. Today participation in the Faros Maratón has become a matter of prestige for each aspiring open water swimmer.

The Faros Maratón and its founder and director Vicko Šoljan have their own places in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as a reward for exceptional contribution in the development and promotion of open water swimming worldwide more than three decades.
