In addition to the Fédération d’Haïti, l’Association de Natation Haïtienne et de Sauvetage (Haitian Aquatic Sports and Life Saving Federation), Fédération Sénégalaise de Natation et de Sauvetage (FSNS or Senegal Swimming & Lifesaving Federation) is one of the few national governing bodies that combines competitive swimming with open water swimming and lifesaving in its mission.

Similar to Dr. Evenel Mervilus in Haiti, the Fédération Sénégalaise de Natation et de Sauvetage is pushing for widespread open water swimming competency among its citizens as well as developing competitiveness for domestic and international competitions among its elite aquatic athletes. Both Haiti and Senegal are affiliated with the International Life Saving Federation.

The Fédération Sénégalaise de Natation et de Sauvetage organizes the annual 4.5 km and 5.2 km Traversée Dakar – Gorée from Thiaroye to La Voile d’Or in Senegal. Its 29th edition will be held in September 2016.

The Federation held its 2016 annual meeting and re-elected Mohamed Diop as its president for another 4-year term. Diop has been president since 2001.
