Fernando Possenti Honored as 2021 FINA Open Water Swimming Coach of the Year

As is traditional at the FINA World Aquatics Gala, the coach of the gold medalist of the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim received the Open Water Swimming Coach of the Year Award.

Fernando Possenti was honored as the Coach of the Best Female Open Water Swimmer in 2021, Ana Marcela Cunha who repeated as FINA’s Best Female Open Water Swimmer of the Year in 2021.

Possenti was previously honored as the He was selected as the 2014 FINA Open Water Swimming Coach of the Year in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 as well as 2021. The former Brazilian 200 IM and butterfly national champion is fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese and has served as the Brazilian national open water swimming coach since 2011. He has coached swimmers to 10 FINA World Championships medals (4 gold + 2 silver + 4 bronze) at the 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019 championships.

He has traveled to the USA, Canada, China, Russia, Japan, Hungary, Mexico, Greece, Chile, Israel, and elsewhere to lead the Brazilian national open water team – and will continue to do so.
