Fiji Swims 18K World Record May Be In Jeopardy

Douglas Miller of Fiji holds the world record for the 18K Fiji Swims event from the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa to Beachcomber Island in 4 hours and 56 minutes. This year, swimmers from Australia, New Zealand, USA, England, Singapore and Malaysia are flying to tropical Fiji to join locals to try and break Douglas’ record on August 12.

Michael Sheils, winner of the 10K Magnetic Island race in Queensland, Ryan Huckle, winner of Sydney’s Bondi to Watsons Bay race, and Tiffany Fraser-Gillard of Perth are considered to be strong contenders.

The 18K team record is held by ‘No! We’re Team Queensland’, set in 2008 in a time of 3 hours and 55 minutes with Trudee Hutchinson, Stacey Hansford, Maddison Allen, Alexandra Goddard and Jamie-Leigh Austin.
