The Totalsports XTERRA South African Championship presented by REHIDRAT® SPORT will offer an inaugural open water swim at the inaugural Sanlam Cape Mile at the picturesque Eikenhof Dam (Grabouw Country Club, Western Cape) on February 14th.

The Sanlam Cape Mile is great preparation for the Totalsports XTERRA Grabouw,” says reigning Totalsports XTERRA Buffelspoort champion, Bradley Weiss. “Taking place the following weekend the Totalsports XTERRA Grabouw can often be an intimidating environment if you aren’t used to swimming amongst masses. This is also the ideal opportunity to test out your race gear, while familiarizing yourself with the race venue. I doubt that I will be in the running for a podium position at the Sanlam Cape Mile, but I will be using this event as one final opportunity to fine tune my open water swimming.

Top XTERRA Warrior Robyn Williams admits that swimming has always been her first love. “I love the sense of achievement that comes with completing a hard swim session as well as the camaraderie that is formed between swimming mates. My advice to newcomers is to do your best to feel relaxed in the water and get a nice breathing rhythm going. Look up often so that you don’t veer off course and end up swimming an extra distance.

All Totalsports XTERRA Grabouw entrants can enter the Sanlam Cape Mile at a discounted rate and compete for cash prizes (see here).
