Firas Moualla Pioneered Swim From Cyprus To Syria
Courtesy of WOWSA, Huntington Beach, California. Firas Moualla is a graduate of Damascus University and is the Secretary-General of the Olympic Committee in Syria. The Syrian open water swimmer culminated his prolific career with a 124 km solo swim from the island of Cyprus to Latakia City along the Syrian coast in 2007.
The 77-mile swim on September 22nd 2007 took Moualla 42 hours 0 minutes and was his second attempt after his first unsuccessful attempt on September 11th along a planned course of 112 km. The swim puts him at #21 in history’s rankings of the longest swims in the world (see here).

Served on the FINA Technical Open Water Swimming Committee and as Technical Delegate with the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games, and 9-time USA Swimming coaching staff.
