Fog Lifts For Fogle In San Francisco

It is said that the BBC makes the best television nature and science documentaries. BBC Worldwide Production and Lonely Planet TV are filming the Year of Adventures, that is based on the Lonely Planet book of the same name and will be broadcast internationally on BBC Knowledge, BBC HD and BBC Entertainment in 2012.

Ben Fogle is the swimmer who is the focus of this five-part series in the United States, Europe and Australia. Ben tackles the Alcatraz Island swim, with the help of Pedro Ordenes, here.

The Lonely Planet schedule is designed to take our viewers on a journey of exploration and discovery, and we’ve selected these titles to feed their passion for experiencing the world through travel,” said David Weiland, senior vice president and TV channels, BBC Worldwide. “These programmes will find a natural home in the Lonely Planet block, with a host of engaging personalities and experts to transport viewers right to the heart of a place. This is only the start and we have lots of other ideas in development and hope to announce more throughout 2011..”

With BBC’s ownership of the Lonely Planet brand, this Year of Adventures by Ben may be the prelude to many more televised open water swimming adventures.
