Following In The Wake Of History In The Ría de Navia

There are many tens of thousands of friends of the Descenso Ría de Navia…and for good reason. These swimmers – young and old, fast and slow – are part of history, taking part in one of the world’s greatest open water swims.

The Descenso a Nado de la Ría de Navia (Navia’s Downstream Swim) in northern Spain is a beautifully, culturally rich downstream swim that started in 1958.

Building upon its rich history of 54 previous editions, the 5 km XIV Asturias Cup will take place on August 4th with the LV Descenso Ría de Navia event (1.1 km, 1.7 km, 3 kmand 5 km) on August 5th.

From its humble beginning when 14 swimmers swam 1 km in a coastal village in Asturias, Galicia, it has grown to thousands of participants with parades, festivals and TV coverage that puts the swimmers and the sport on center stage.
