Four Open Water Swimmers Qualify For Olympic 1500m Final
American swimming star Katie Ledecky easily qualified first – as expected – in the 1500m freestyle at the Tokyo Olympics which is the first time the event has been held for women.
Qualifying in second was Jianjiahe Wang of China. Ledecky and Wang are joined by four open water swimmers – representing half of the field. The final of the inaugural 1500m final will be held on July 28th.
Erica Sullivan of the USA qualified third in 15:46.67. Anastasiia Kirpichnikova of Russian Olympic Committee qualified fifth in 15:50.22 – she will also compete in the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim on August 4th. Sarah Kohler of Germany qualified 6th in 15:52.67 while Kiah Melverton of Australia grabbed the eighth spot in the final.
