Fran Crippen Unselfishly Pulling Double Duty

Fran Crippen Unselfishly Pulling Double Duty

USA Swimming announced its roster and staff for its 2010 National Open Water Select Camp to be held in Long Beach, California before its national 5K and 10K open water swimming championships.

2009 World Championship 10K bronze medalist Fran Crippen will headline the camp where 12 young men and 12 young women will be given an intense 4-day introduction to the sport of open water swimming before they dive into the USA Swimming National 10K Open Water Championships.

In a shining example of the camaraderie and collegiality that open water swimming embodies, Fran Crippen will be teaching his tips, techniques, tactics and training methodologies to the swimmers at the camp … showing them exactly how it is done from feeding to navigating to drafting to positioning to pacing … and then competing with them shoulder-to-shoulder for spots on the USA Swimming National Open Water Swimming Team at the 5K and 10K national championships.

If that is not giving back to the sport, we do not know what is. His leadership and unselfishness are truly altruistic.

In previous years, 2005 world 10K champion Chip Peterson and 2008 world championship 25K silver medalist Mark Warkentin played similar roles. Their leadership and their sharing of their first-hand experiences at the highest echelons of the sport were also greatly appreciated by all and prove why these three men are magnificent role models for USA Swimmming and for the sport of open water swimming in the United States.
